Great Lakes Western RR -- Calumet
City Industrial Area
The Calumet City area is pier-side on Lake Michigan
include iron and steel manufacturing, oil refining, plastic mfg, chemical
mfg., and a power substation. A good deal of the trackage is for
moving liquid metal cars around the blast furnace area and to transfer
hot metal to the rolling mill. These industries will generate
and use tank cars, covered hoppers and ore, coal and coke cars.
The following industries are found in Calumet City:

Construction Status: Calumet City is tracked, wired and used in early
operating sessions with most buildings in place.
Rock retaining walls (plaster casts) have been installed below the mainline
and earthwork (plaster) has been added around the oil refinery.
Also a road and ramp has been constructed from the oil refinery over
the mainline and into the backdrop.
Dick Vogler is working on the Steel Mill
and has many buildings installed as temporary foam-core mockups
(very good ones). The materials piles are partly installed
and the inbound unloading hoppers are now being built.
Len Horn is working on the oil refinery and plastic pellet
manufacturing area. He will be scenicing and completing this area.
